What is a swear word?

A conversation with Skylar -

So we are cleaning the house and all of a sudden I hear Skylar say "D*#% it!"
I respond with "What did you just say?"
"I said d*#$ it, mom"
"Honey, you are not supposed to say that word, it's a swear word."
"Well, dad says it."
"I know, but he shouldn't."
"Well what is a swear word? Why is it bad to say?"
"It is just a bad word, you shouldn't say it."
"Well why is it okay for you and dad to say it."
"It's not okay and we try not to say it."

Here I have her call her dad and ask why he says it. She tells him "You always say it when you forget to set the VCR."

So apparently, we let a bad word slip once in a while - made even more apparent by the fact that our five year old now repeats it!

So for all you seasoned parents out there, how do you deal with this situation? What is a swear word?

Awesome Weekend

This weekend my mom, 3 of my sisters and me, drove down to Las Vegas to give my sister Merilee a baby shower. This is her first baby and we are so excited for her.

We had a great weekend - It was short, but full of fun. On the drive down we talked, sang ABBA songs, stopped for burgers and shakes, and had a great time. We spent the next day getting ready for the shower, having the shower and spending time with each other. We sang karaoke, talked about babies, went shopping, ate GREAT food (Thanks Mark!), and stayed up too late. It was so fun to be with my family and enjoy a warm weekend in Vegas. The next day was the drive home - more great talking and lots of good road snacks.

We have decided we want to try and do a girl trip every year. Thanks to Mark and Merilee who were great hosts! Thanks to Kory for keeping the girls all weekend!

An Update - Finally!

We have been so busy lately! Unfortunately not doing anything too exciting, but I just have not been able to find the time to update. So here are a couple of things that have been happening at our house the last few weeks.

Kory and the girls had a camp out in the living room. They were so excited to be sleeping in the living room with dad.

We went to the Draper Temple open house. We were able to have Kory's Mom and Dad come with us. They are not members of the church and it was really cool to be able to have them see the temple and ask questions about it. The girls also loved it. I loved being able to tell them about some of the different rooms. They thought it was so fun.

Kortnie and Skylar had their first dance performance. They had so much fun getting dressed up in their costumes. Kortnie was most excited that she got to wear make-up - that is until I tried to put mascara on her. She was so nervous I would poke her eye that she almost didn't let me put it on. They had a good time and did a great job! I think they look so cute!

The girls on Valentines Day. Kory and I bought each of the girls a Valentine balloon - they loved them, although Kortnie popped hers within the first 10 minutes. Kory and the girls wrote me a song and performed it for me. It was sooooo cute. Skylar also made Kory and I a card at preschool. That night Kory and I got a babysitter and went to dinner and a Wii tournament at our stake center. The food was amazing! It was so fun to go out. We usually don't do much for Valentines day, so it was fun.

Holland is now 9 months old. He is crawling like crazy - he stands up on everything. He tries to stand on his own, but can only do it for a second or two. He likes to babble and puts everything he can find into his mouth. He has a few teeth trying to come in, but they just won't break through the gums - hopefully it will be soon. He loves his sisters even though they tend to never leave him alone. He is now 18 pounds and 28.5 inches long. He is growing so fast!
